Hello Everyone!! I’m Melinda. I have been living in Japan for 19 years, but this is a secret because I don’t want people to know how old I am. I came to Japan because I was practicing aikido at my university and my sensei was Japanese. I learned a lot from him about Japan and wanted to experience it for myself. When I first arrived in Japan it was easy to find a job with my light brown hair and blue eyes. I worked at various language schools and kindergartens before moving to Kagoshima in 1994 to work at Junshin junior and senior high school. I love Kagoshima!!! I love the food. I love the people. I love the beautiful beaches. And I especially love teaching English! About five years ago I started using storybooks as a teaching material in the classroom. I found that children enjoyed stories more than textbooks. Three years ago I found out about a method called TPR-S that’s becoming the leading teaching methodology in the United States. I have successfully passed two extensive training courses in this method. In 2004 I opened Lindy Lizard’s English House and base almost all of my classes on this methodology. It must be a good method as my student enrolment went from five to 125 in three years. I am the president of TPR-S Japan and often travel around Japan promoting this teaching method as a qualified teacher trainer. I am the author of the Lindy Lizard storybooks series. A series of books with an Australian frilled lizard as the main character. In the future I want to have my books published and travel around the world spreading the powerful TPR-S teaching method. I look forward to the day when I can teach you!

Ryuya Kawahara English Instructor Lindy Lizard English House
LMS Designer & Management
Assistant Director
Hello. I’m Ryuya Kawahara. I have an interesting background. I studied electronics and engineering at university. I didn’t have much interest in English until I met Melinda and decided to marry her. While working at Sony as a circuit designer I had to study practical buisiness English.. I successfully passed the pre-first level and started studying TOEIC. When I achieved a score of 900 I decided to study for the TOEFL test. With a lot of hard work I could gain a score high enough to allow me to enter graduate school in Canada. Now I’m studying educational technology at the University of British Colombia. This is my final year and I hope to graduate in the spring of 2008. While studying I teach full time at a technology high school. In the beginning I taught only engineering and computer programming, but with the change of the times I now teach a course termed “Multi Media”. From two years ago I started to teach this course in English. I have given several seminars on multi media in the classroom. At Lindy Lizard’s English House I teach Eiken and TOEIC classes. I hope to teach you one day too.
